Throstle Gill Farm.
Situated between Richmond and Barnard
Castle, Throstle Gill Farm stands in a secret
wooded cleft of the hills beneath the iron-age
hill fort of Castlesteads.
Bed and breakfast is available at the house
(English Tourism Council 4 Diamonds
commended). Guests can enjoy a double
room with unique four-poster bed or twin
room, both are en-suite with TV, tea and
coffee making facilities. There is a resident's
lounge where a log-fire burns in season.
It is an ideal place to stay for those who want to get away from it all yet it enjoys easy access to the AI (M) and the A66. The junction for these roads at Scotch Corner is only 8 miles away.

The original farmhouse dates back to 1600 but has been extended and modernised to a high standard. 'Throstle' is the old English name for song-thrush and 'Gill' means a stream in a deep wooded ravine.

The village of Dalton nestles 1 mile below Throstle Gill Farm and food may be had at 'The Travellers Rest' or at one of the many pubs in the nearby villages.

Throstle Gill Farm is an ideal centre to explore 'The Herriot Trail' and Swaledale and Wensleydale to the south. To the north lie Teesdale, Durham and Hadrian's Wall. West lies Appleby and Penrith, gateway to the Lake District, and East the North York Moors and Whitby.

Whether you are relaxing overnight on a journey to or from Scotland or have come for a holiday break you will have happy memories of your time at Throstle Gill.
